The preliminary version of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company Sailboat Registry is now available.
HMC built over 1000 sailboats between 1893 and 1943, many of which are still in existence.
This document records information about these boats.
Click on the link above to get the document.
It is a PDF, so you will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
It is a large file, so if you are using a dial-up connection, it may take a while to download.
Once you open it up, you can save it on your hard drive for later reference and printing.
Any information you have that will help us make the registry more accurate and more complete is
welcome. The database and documents will be updated frequently with new and revised information.
If you know of any boats that aren't documented, please let us know. It is also important
to document those boats that have been destroyed, please let us know of those as well. There is
a link in the Collboration menu to a form to send updates. You can use email as well.
You may notice in the database hull numbers in the 9000-range. These numbers are not
real, but are used to signify Herreshoff sailboats that have been found but are without their
builder's plate or hull number.
We have just put up an online discussion forum. The forum is freely accessible for viewing, though we encourage you to register for an ID.
This will get you access to the Private Messages feature. The process to obtain an ID is quick, easy, and free. It is also be flexible, so you can make as much or as little information
about yourself public as you wish. There are sections for discussing design classes, specific boats, restoration,
and an area to post boats available for sale. It will take a little while for critical mass to develop. The more people that use it, the
richer the content will be. So please check it out. There is a link in the Collaborate menu.
Any feedback on the registry or the website is gratefully accepted. In addition to corrections, updates or additions, we are
interested in suggestions on how to improve the utility of the information. Our goal is to make this a useful tool for those
in our special community. Your suggestions will be evaluated and included among the improvements slated for upcoming versions.
